X outage creates confusion in Pakistan

As the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) faced global outage affecting several countries, including Pakistan, the telecom sector has clarified that the platform has not been blocked in the country.

The downdetector has reported that there has been real-time overview of problems with Twitter.

The users cannot log in or send tweets.The Downdetector is a part of Ookla, a connectivity intelligence and network insights involved in measuring network performance with Speedtest to identifying problems with Downdetector.

The disruption follows a similar global outage faced by the platform on Thursday, May 22, which lasted for several hours before being resolved by the platform itself.

Meanwhile the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has said that it’s investigation into the matter has confirmed that there are no technical issues at Pakistan’s internet gateways. ”All other internet services across the country remain fully functional,” PTA has said.

Meanwhile the Global internet observatory NetBlocks has also confirmed that the outages being experienced by ‘X’ are international in nature and not related to any country-level internet disruptions or filtering.X services had been suspended in Pakistan since February 2024, and it was restored recently during the aggression by India to enhance communications in country.

Soon after the global outage of X, the general impression was that the popular social media platform had been blocked again.

However, PTA has also announced that the Authority continues to monitor the situation and will keep the public informed of any significant updates.
